MY STORY
Hi, I’m Katrina.

I’m asking for your vote on 28 March 2020 for energetic, smart, proactive representation for Palm Beach, Burleigh, Elanora and Tallebudgera.

I live in Elanora and my family and I have

been part of our community for the past

15 years.

I am standing to make a positive difference for our community. We deserve strong representation and advocacy in the discussions and decisions that impact our area and every one of us who live here.

Our area  is special and our difference brings great value to the Gold Coast.  I will protect what we love and should never sacrifice  – our enviable lifestyle, our vibrant and unique identity, our natural assets.

I will chase and embrace opportunities to improve those things we need and know that we can make better – better public transport including heavy rail to the airport, greater certainty and tighter guidelines on new development, more opportunities for our kids.

I offer a proactive plan built on experience and skills from my career and my long-standing and active involvement in our community.

RELEVANT BUSINESS SKILLS

My background is a political journalist and I continue to work as a communication strategist and media advisor for government and corporate organisations. I am also a financial writer specialising in supporting women's financial literacy.

For around a decade my role was to investigate to keep politicians accountable. I’m comfortable asking the hard questions.

I know how government at local, state and federal level should work – including budgets, programs, processes and procedure, and how to get things done.

I am experienced in strategic and leadership roles and have been active on numerous committees and advisory groups.

COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE

I am an active member in our community, involved as a parent and volunteer.

I currently serve as a volunteer as:

  • Palm Beach Currumbin Junior AFL Club, Senior Vice President,,Committee member 2017-present and 2019 Volunteer of the Year

  • Pacific Surf Lifesaving Club, Patrolling member and accredited competition official

  • Palm Beach Currumbin State High School P&C member

  • Greater Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce member

  • Australian Labor Party Currumbin branch member

  • As a published author of four books, I regularly support literacy and writing projects including the Australian Literacy Educators’ Association Meanjin workshops for students from low socio-economic backgrounds.
